Trump vs Hollywood, Idols vs God

This morning's news about the Golden Globe awards reminded me of how people have been directing their lives by those in the news media and also Hollywood.  Yet this is not to be done.  The bible says in

Exodus 20:3-6 " You shall have no other gods before me.  You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on earth beneath or in the waters below.  You shall not bow down to them or worship them....for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

We do not realize we are seeing actresses and actors, politicians and those with influence as someone to idolize.  Yet there is only one whom we should listen to, and search His counsel.  That would be Yeshua.  When we see the world around us in chaos, remember that we have choices.  We can conform or transform.

Romans 12:2  "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Remember, an actor is one who portrays another life.  It is not real.  It's entertainment, their own reality.  How often do we hear of actor's that lead a tragic life.  They are real people like you and I.  They are not someone to put on a pedestal and idolize.  We can't over react because of something they say.  The spotlight is on them now, but Hollywood is fickle.  That same spotlight points to others quickly.  Yet, we are always in God's spotlight.

News media covers the sensational part of life.  Sometimes good, but always the 'big' story.  They need the ratings to go up.  They put out stories to 'shock and awe' people.  Is it truth?  Sometimes.  Mostly, it is over exaggerated or embellished truth mixed in with emotionalism.  Actors do that as well.  They project or act out life with emotionalism in their trade.  It's what makes them great entertainers.  To some, news is also entertaining.

I know folks who do not watch the news at all.  It has made them edgy, depressed and nervous.  It's not that they do not know what's going on.  It's that they do not watch news each morning, noon and night as a ritual.

Pray for our political arena, news media and Hollywood but do not idolize them.  A pedestal is a high place to fall from.
