Apple and Cranberry sauce strudel

I wanted to continue on my recipe search for ways to use a few things, and make them into something special.

Here in my kitchen I welcome the taste of apple pie.  There is a recipe I have used for years that is so easy and delicious that it’s almost too easy.  My husband loves it!

This makes a desert for four

3 peeled apples

½ cup cranberry sauce

1 tsp of baking powder

1 cup of sugar

1 cup of flour

½ tsp salt

1 tsp of cinnamon and 1 tsp of sugar combined

¼ tsp of nutmeg

1 egg

Butter the bottom of a baking dish and slice the apples into it. Put the cranberry sauce in breaking the sauce up into little dollops here and there.  Sprinkle with the combined cinnamon and sugar and then nutmeg

Dot with butter

In a separate dish mix together the rest of the dry ingredients and break an egg into it.  Mix with a fork until it’s crumbly.  Put over apples and cranberry sauce.

Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes or until crust is light brown.  I bake mine covered and then when taken out of oven, leave it covered until it’s cool enough to eat.  This is so the crust does not harden.

Can be served alone or with whipped cream.
