God's plan for 2013 starts with examining my time

Now that we are a few weeks in the new year, I am reminded that many take this time to make new resolutions. I never seem to follow through with any promises but this year I felt the Lord speaking very clearly to me.

'You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.' Isaiah 26:3 NKJ

I feel the Lord taking this time to have me take stock of how I use my time. How often we can fill our lives with things and even be stressed by them without knowing it. As a regular church goer I can be busy going to many activities and suddenly find myself worn out and not really getting anything out of what I am doing.

This is not to say I am doing bad things, it's just that I need to focus on what it is that God wants me to be doing. As I meditated on this and prayerfully asked the Lord to empty out any clutter [good or bad] I spent some time listening. The Lord speaks to me as I wait quietly before Him. Sometimes, He speaks through my husband, or others as well. Often, I can hear His answers as I search His word.

The result was that I had to reorganize my time in an effort to be on the right path for me this year. I have had to break some committments and say no to a few things. The Lord spoke to me about what my priorities are. He comes first, my husband and family, and then ministry. If I am too busy doing ministry, I become stressed, tired and unable to hear from God. If I am giving all my time to family, I can get drained. The time spent with God each day prepares, instructs and strenghens me to accomplish what I am to be doing. I gain more creativity and am less apt to take on things that would overload my time.

I am not saying I know exactly what the new year will bring. The Lord seldom gives me a total picture. He will unfold things as needed. To walk with the Lord is an exciting journey. To give Him top priority and wait to hear His voice is an amazing starting point for the new year.

I would encourage you to look over your new year and what you are doing with your time. Are you willing to let the Lord reorganize your time? His thoughts are higher than ours. If you are not in perfect peace as you walk through your days, perhaps God has a better plan for how you spend your time. Just a thought.
