Matthew 24: 7 “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.”
This is an incredible time to be alive. We have seen the birth of computers, atomic bombs, and space ships. We who are alive today can boast of being here when the world was connected with a world wide web. Many will read my simple words today and smile. ‘OK, tell me what I do not know.’
The bible said there is nothing new under the sun. Therefore, I can not tell you anything new. However, I can remind you of what was all ready said by Jesus himself. This is not a dooms day message at all. No one knows when the Lord will return. But, as I watch the turmoil in Egypt and Libya I am reminded of what the Lord said so long ago.
While Jesus walked this earth, Rome was the world power. Later, England marched and overcame the land. Now, the United States is a world power. Other nations are also world powers. Yet the greatest power of all is the Creator Himself.
The economy might go sour, oil prices will go up, there will be more wars and yet through it all Christ is still with His children. Our response is quite important during these days of trial. Will our faith grow cold? Will we turn away from God when we see the devastation all around us?
Remember, this life on earth is only temporary. Eternity is one of two places. Life with Christ or eternal damnation. It matters little if it is not believed. That doesn’t change the facts.
Yesterday I watched as the last shuttle went up into space. This particular time in history has ended. It will mean an end to more jobs. Perhaps another nation will take over being the leader in space explorations. I do not know. But this one thing I do know. Jesus never goes out of style.
His words will be preached until the end of time. Nations will indeed topple over and famines and earthquakes will assault the earth. Yet, His words will never die. We have a choice to live in fear or live in faith. We can have faith in our own understanding [which changes constantly] or faith in the One who never changes. We can worship a God we make up to suit our own needs or we can accept and submit to the Lord Jesus of the bible. He never forces himself on anyone. We have a choice.
When your world as you know it, crumbles all around you…I wonder who you will call out to.
