'Some trust in chariots...'

When I move around in the company of believers and also non believers here in Florida, I hear the sounds of politics and fear. I hear the sound of idol worship in my ears as well. Idol worship comes in so many shapes and sizes that it is often camouflaged in material goods, family members and even patriotism. Remember the Lord says to serve no other god before him. Yet, are we willing to give him our possesions that are so dear? If He takes our dearest possesions will we still call Him Lord? What if He removes our country from being the world power that it is? Think about it?

How often I've heard the phrase "I'm proud to be an American". Truth be known, I am thankful to be born in this country. I'm thankful for all of those who fought and died to protect my living in this country. My family has sent several to the wars over the years. I thank every one of them.

I am reminded though, of the fall of Rome. This great city that controlled all of the known world for so long had put their trust in the wrong place. As Christians living through the world of wars, earth quakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, financial ruin and moral decay we can only put our trust in God. I pray for this nation but I am under no illusion that because of our great military power we will be safe forever. "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm." We have no cause to be in fear! Fear not! Jesus is still our King!

Listening to the right and left wing reminds me of those who thought that the only way to victory was to divide and conquer. The only way to ensure victory is by looking up, not to the right or the left.

Having knowledge of the goings on is a good thing only if you take a step back from fear and emotionalism and examine it against what it is we Christians are to do in these amazing times. The great commission has not changed.

This great earth has seen constant change. "His ways are higher than ours" but I can rest easy in the knowledge of what Jesus told his deciples in John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
